I posted an R107 SL a little while ago and said how I prefer a 350 or 500 over the 300, and now a 500SL has popped up at auction (tomorrow in fact). Continue reading “Auction Spot #31”
Isn’t it great when you’re able to buy a car that is completely incredible but know you won’t lose a huge amount of money on it because other people already have? This Mercedes CL600 must have had an original list price close to five times the value of the current asking price of £22,000, though the bid price is lower at £14,100. According to the listing the owner thinks this is one of the best cars he’s ever owned, and that includes Ferraris and Bentleys. He also says that the CL600 model was only build between 2007 and 2009 and there could have been less than 70 produced, which if true would make this incredibly rare and worth sitting on for a couple of decades. After reading on through the listing the car actually had a list price of over £140k! This is a real continent crusher that you could just keep and enjoy, plus if you put a private plate on it no one would guess that it’s a 10 year old car.
A classic Mercedes can be a lovely thing, especially when it looks as good as this R107 300SL does. It certainly isn’t the cheapest R107 that I’ve seen with a guide price of £17,000-£20,000 but if its as clean as it appears then it certainly isn’t a bad price, plus the colour certainly helps it along. If you’ve ever fancied pretending that you’re Royalty then this may very well be the car for you. Its probably not even very likely that you’ve seen one exactly like this as only 12 RHD manual models were built, how many exist I don’t know. Continue reading “Internet Find #59”
Mercedes of this age often have a class and elegance that few cars manage to achieve. Even in a delapidated state this Mercedes still looks beautiful, and it so needs saving, or perhaps even restomodding. It’s a manual car which would tempt me to keep the car with the original running gear but this could be stunning with the right aesthetic and a nice V8 under the bonnet. I’m not sure I would want to spend £5k on it but the car is complete and the engine runs though it has no brakes. It has had 3 owners from new, and is now MOT and tax exempt, though the MOT is obviously still sensible.
I don’t think that this car is cheap, I actually think its overpriced, despite the ad saying that it is ‘priced very sensibly’. You can certainly get them in lovely condition for a lot more money. That said, this is a stunning car in a great colour combination that always suits a classic Mercedes. The black coachwork presents very nicely and the red interior sets it off very well. Its in these sorts of cars that a red interior really works well, unlike a modern BMW…
I’m not sure if I would rather have one of these or an old Jaguar XK120, they’re both beautiful cars but the Jaguar just might edge it out. Its worth looking at the ad for more info and to ogle the photos though.
The R129 SL is now an appreciating classic, and while they’re not a sports car they do make for a fantastic GT car. I’ve driven a 500SL for a few weeks and thoroughly enjoyed it once I had it on the motorway and realised what it was actually all about. Continue reading “Cool eBay Find #106”
